The Church Ministries Institute
When my Dad, Dr. Marc
S. Blackwell, Sr., first came to Africa in 1975 to begin a church-planting
ministry in Salisbury, Rhodesia, now known as Harare, Zimbabwe, he knew there
would be a need for training men and woman for the ministry. It was at this
time that he began the ‘Bible College/Seminary’ ministry, based in local
churches, which he named the Church Ministries Institute. The Lord has blessed
the efforts that my Dad and Mom made in this area of training people for
the ministry. They have been privileged to see the Lord give them key Leaders
to train and become pastors of the churches they and others were used to
start. Other graduates became missionaries as well and many lay
people were equipped to assist their pastors in the ministry.
Over the years this
Leadership Training ministry expanded through-out Southern Africa and
also had an influence on Church-based Training in other
countries. Deon and I have both studied through the Church Ministries
Institute of Cape Town here in South Africa. When we surrendered to the Lord’s
leading into full time ministry we turned to the Church Ministries Institute
for our education in God’s Word and in gaining the knowledge of how to minster
for the Lord through church-planting. During this time the Church Ministries
Institute was able to offer more than a diploma but a fully accredited degree,
as well. CMI was able to receive accreditation through the North West
University - South Africa while still being allowed to teach what we as Independent
Baptist believe. We are thankful to the Lord that this ministry has
enabled us to have the training we need to follow the Lord in a Biblical way as
we serve Him in church-planting here in Malmesbury, South Africa.
We ask that you pray
for the future of this Adult Christian Education Ministry and please pray for
two couples, Franz & Bronwyn Exner and Hugo & Marisa Coetzee, that
attend our sister church-plant in Paarl as they study and prepare through
CMI.
