Barbecues & Tea Parties

Vintage Tea
at Paardeberg Mountain Retreat

In South Africa many social gatherings are centered around a braai -  |ˈbrʌɪ|S. African: a structure on which a fire can be made for the outdoor grilling of meat. Yes, like in many other countries around the world, we South Africans like our meat! We enjoy braaing so much that it is the center of many of our celebrations: New Years, birthdays and Christmas, just to name a few. The tradition is that the men braai and the woman fix all the food that is served with the braai meat.

Another event, enjoyed by woman in South Africa, is that of a tea party: a social gathering in the afternoon at which tea, cakes, and other light refreshments are served.

Paardeberg Mountain Retreat, our Christian Camping Ministry, held a ladies tea for our ladies and a breakfast braai for the men here in the Western Cape Province. We encouraged the people in our congregation to attend these events, bringing their friends or family members with. The reason for these events are to provide an opportunity to get to know our unsaved family and friends and them to have the opportunity to hear the gospel. It is also a time where we can encourage and be encouraged by our brothers and sisters in Christ.

We would like to thank you for praying for these events. The Lord blessed each one and many were encouraged in God’s Word. Please continue to pray for our church people as they and we reach out to our community with the gospel, many times through events such as braaing or having a tea party!
