"For Whom Is Baptism For?"

Romans 6:3-6
“Know ye not that, as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into
his death? Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death, that as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we
shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection; Knowing this, that our old man is
crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should
not serve sin.”

I was privileged to share from God’s Word at a baptism held at our church, “For Whom Is Baptism For?”. I used examples of three people’s lives in the Bible: Lydia, Philippian Jailer and the Ethiopian Eunuch. Lydia, had already accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in obedience to what she was taught. (Acts. 16:13-15) The Jailer, asked what he must do to be saved and accepted Christ immediately. Later that evening he was baptized. (Acts 16:29-34) The Eunuch, read God’s Word and Philip explained the gospel to him and he accepted Christ as his Savior and enquired about baptism immediately and was baptized. (Acts 8:34-49)

For the genuine believer, being baptized is a testimony of identifying ourselves with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. On  Sunday, January 27 we saw three people testify of what Christ had done in their lives. We were greatly encouraged to see Hannes and Hugo & Marisa share their testimonies of God’s love in their lives.

Hugo & Marisa

Many people that evening not only saw the testimonies of these three believers but heard the gospel. I am so thankful that the Lord gave me the opportunity to share His Word with those in attendance. It is our prayer that many will come to know the Lord as their Savior and then due to their obedience to God’s Word, their love for Him and their desire to share their testimony, they too, can follow Christ and be baptized.
